Home remedy definetly work for dry scalp. Having been tried by myself, I can vouch for the effects of home remedies.
Few home remedies that can be tried are :
- Coconut oil is safe and effective in treating dry skin, which may indicate that it could also be useful in treating scalp dryness. However, another study showed that although coconut oil did not have any ill effects, there was no noticeable difference between the scalps of people who used the oil and those who did not.
- Tea Tree Oil is well-known for its countless beneficial properties such as anti-bacterial and anti-septic which is why it’s a popular natural alternative to harsh chemicals.
- Olive oil has anti inflammatory substance which helps in hair regrowth.
- Omega-3 Fatty Acids : Some practitioners of alternative medicine suggest that increasing your intake of omega-3 fatty acids can treat dry scalp by improving your overall skin health. Available in dietary supplement form omega-3 fatty acids are also found naturally in foods like flax seeds and in oily fish like salmon, sardines, tuna, mackerel, and herring.
- Dandruff Shampoos and Treatments. Try medicated over-the-counter dandruff shampoos containing zinc pyrithione, ketoconazole, or selenium oxide; these active ingredients can help clear up irritated, flaky, and dry skin. Make sure you use them at least once or twice a week, and alternate with a moisturizing shampoo.
- Baking Soda: The
noble and straightforward baking soda can act as an effective remedy to
combat Dandruff. All you need to do is dampen your hair and sprinkle a
handful of baking soda on your scalp. Rub vigorously. Post the exercise,
go for a quick rinse, but avoid shampooing. Initially, after a few
sessions, you feel your hair dry. But eventually, your scalp will start
producing natural oils thereby making your hair look softer and devoid
of dry flakes.
