As
Covid-19 scare grapples the whole country, people are getting concerned
about their health. While practicing good hygiene is a practice
everyone must adopt, the one thing you can really do is to look for ways
to boost your immunity naturally.
Yoga
is one way you can naturally uplift your vitality without having to
step out of the comfort of your home during this Lock down Contests a
recent post, acclaimed nutritionist and celebrity dietician talked about
the benefits of the same.
Yoga guru Baba Ramdev also talked about different yoga poses which could come in handy during these times of crisis.
- Sitting and Breathing (Sukhasana and Pranayama)When it comes to boosting your immunity, sometimes the simplest approach can be the most effective. Sukhasana is the traditional pose for meditation. It allows for optimal breathing and movement of “prana” (life force energy)throughout the body. Allowing yourself to relax and breathe deeply can help reduce stress hormones, heart rate, and nervous system distress (which all supports strong immunity). Breathing through a U-shaped tongue for a minimum of three minutes is believed to help reduce a fever.
- Sphinx Pose (Salamba Bhujangasana): This pose is highly therapeutic for the nervous system and is wonderful for combatting anxiety and depression. Being that it is an easy pose to go into, I love this one for the days that feel a little overwhelming. It's considered a restorative yin posture—meaning it doesn't require a lot from the body, and it's wonderful to do in the morning as it energizes and soothes the mind. Sphinx also massages the lower abdomen and alleviates stomach pain.
- Prasarita Padottanasana (Wide-Legged Standing Forward Bend): Stand with your feet about 4 feet apart. Interlace your fingers behind your back (or use a strap), and straighten your arms. Fold forward, lifting your arms up toward the ceiling. Keep the weight evenly distributed in your feet, with the legs engaged. Breathe deeply, inviting your chest to open and lungs to clear. This inversion can be wonderful for draining mild chest congestion (excess kapha dosha). With each exhalation, loosen up and invite the day’s tension to release.
- Supta Virasana:Place
a folded blanket at the top of a bolster. Sit between your heels with
the bolster behind your tailbone. Lie back on the bolster, resting your
head on the blanket. Turn your palms up. Stay here for 10 to 15 breath.
